    Product Overview

Our Yarrow, Blue - Organic (High Chamazulene) has a diffusive aroma that is sweet, fresh, and green-herbaceous with a woody and somewhat camphoraceous note that becomes sweeter in the drydown. Our rare High Chamazulene variety contains approximately 17% chamazulene, the beneficial aromatic constituent that gives a beautiful inky blue hue to essential oils such as Yarrow, Blue Tansy and Blue Chamomile. The aroma of Blue Yarrow is slightly less sweet than that of Blue Tansy or Blue Chamomile.

When these plants are distilled, the naturally occurring, colorless sesquiterpene matricin decomposes into chamazulene, its deep vivid blue color a result of the heat and pressure of distillation.1 Other notable beneficial constituents found in Yarrow, Blue - Organic (High Chamazulene) essential oil include sabinene, beta-pinene, beta-caryophyllene, germacrene D, and 1,8 cineole, to name a few.

Chamazulene is well-known in the skincare industry for its calming benefits, making Yarrow, Blue - Organic (High Chamazulene) a sought-after cosmetic ingredient for skin serums, creams, body lotions, after-waxing care, after-sun care, and targeted preparations for dry, sensitive and mature skin. It’s popular for adding an appealing green to blue color to formulations.

The botanical name for Yarrow, Achillea millefolium, is named after Achilles of Greek mythology who reputedly used the herb on his soldiers in the field during the Trojan War. Blue Yarrow essential oil is useful in massage blends, muscle and joint rubs, chest rubs, women’s blends, and aromatherapy inhaler blends. When used in a diffuser, it can uplift the spirit and promote an ambiance of calm.  Used sparingly in perfumery, it lends intriguing fresh, herbaceous notes to middle and top note accords.
